Know the Difference between an Urgent Emergency and a Non-Urgent One

There are 2 types of dental emergencies – urgent and non-urgent.

If a tooth has knocked out or bleeding and swelling in gums are classified as urgent dental emergencies. There are no home remedies to calm the toothache and need a professional as soon as possible.

If a filling has fallen out, cracked tooth not causing pain or light toothache is the non-urgent dental emergencies. You can wait for a day still you need to see a dentist as soon as possible.

Decide to Call whom

Contact a local dentist if the issue is non-urgent. Explain the issue and depending on severity, the dentist will schedule the first appointment.

During urgent emergencies, call for immediate attention. Hospitals are well-equipped to deal with emergency dental problems. Once the issue is addressed, then contact your dentist and go for the proper treatment as soon as possible.

If you are unsure about calling, then start with your dentist. Explain the entire situation and answer to the dentist’s questions. This will help them to determine whether you need emergency treatment or clinic will work for you.

Save the Damaged Tooth

Don’t think that the tooth cannot be saved. Dentists suggest put the tooth in raw milk and take it along for the treatment. The milk sustains the tooth for a longer period of time and can be placed back into the socket.

Deal With Any Swelling

Swelling should be minimal in any case. Apply an ice pack directly on the cheek or use a frozen bag of vegetables. Keep the cold on the mouth until you receive treatment.

Use Hydrogen Peroxide

The dentists are concerned about bacteria. Use hydrogen peroxide and water to get rid of the irritation. Do not swallow the mixture.

It is important to keep yourself calm and get the treatment as soon as possible in any dental emergency situation.
